Videos of me playing through different games and ROM hacks with commentary. This is mostly done for entertainment value (and to show that all those ROM hacks out there
don't go unplayed!) but occasionally I'll drop in a comment or two about what I think makes a good or bad ROM hack. If I do happen to insult your hack please don't take it personally!
If you've got a hack you'd like me to play you can get in touch via the contact page.
Hunt for Bowser a Super Mario World hack by KirbyPhanPhan - Part 1 of 1
This is the first part of my play through of KirbyPhanPhan's latest creation. In this video we see a new way of starting SMW along with some interesting and challenging level design. We also see that I am very, very out of practice with my Mario playing!
Super Mario World Continues a Super Mario World hack by KirbyPhanPhan - Part 1 of 3
Another hack from the classic Super Mario World, this one called Super Mario World Continues. I really like this hack, it's not the longest in the world (another work in progress I expect) but it shows some originality in the whole '1 level' design. A feather free game though and that makes me sad.
Super Mario World Continues a Super Mario World hack by KirbyPhanPhan - Part 2 of 3
The second part of Super Mario World Continues shows a few more glitches in the graphics but still no real problems showing through.
Super Mario World Continues a Super Mario World hack by KirbyPhanPhan - Part 3 of 3
The final part shows the hack being completed and then a quick run through of one main problem the hack faces where the player can become trapped but
still overall a pleasure to play.
5LevelHack a Super Mario World hack by grishnax - Part 1 of 2
This hack is only 5 levels long (the name gives it away) but they are 5 well designed and fun to play levels. No changes to Yoshi's house except the name and the info box message but the overworld has been completely revamped and looks good. There are no graphical glitches (Ok one minor one with the right wing of the flying block disappearing) which is good because Lunar Magic can often cause them if not used properly. This clip was my first attempt at making a ROM hack Play Through video and shows levels 1 to 3 plus Yoshie's house.
5LevelHack a Super Mario World hack by grishnax - Part 2 of 2
The second part to the grishnax's 5LevelHack. This part shows the rest of level 3 to the end of the hack. The hack continues to be fun and very playable with no broken graphics. The end castle is particularly nice with some well designed tricky parts. I think my favourite part of this whole hack is the placement of the Dragon Coins, they are hard enough to add extra challenge to the game in trying to get them all but not so hard that you decide just to skip trying.
A New Year Walk a Super Mario World hack by Mattan - Part 1 of 1
A 1 level Super Mario World hack but a very good example of what you can achieve if you put in the time and effort. This hack has a huge amount of graphical changes and also alters the game play to make it more of an RPG styled game similar to the Wonderboy series. There is deffinatly some assembly hacking going on here out with the average Lunar Magic work. An all round very nice hack and well worth checking out.
Adventure Of The Red Plumber a Super Mario World hack by guitar god527 - Part 1 of 1
This hack doesn't really bring anything new into the mix but is quite a fun play through none the less. This is just the demo version which was uploaded on 26/6/08 so from that I'd guess there sadly isn't going to be anymore updates which is a shame because it looks like it was shaping up to be a good hack. I noticed after recording this video that there are actually a couple of feathers hidden in two of the levels and that using them makes it possible to fly over the end markers which the maker hasn't planned for so watch out for that in your hacks.
